Spreading God's Word

S I N C E    1 8 7 3

First Baptist Church began in 1873 with a vision to reach people with the gospel of Jesus Christ. Over the past 140+ years, the church has grown, relocated and added greatly to its ministry to the Buford community and surrounding areas in Gwinnett and Hall County.

Our Vision

FBC Buford is ...

a family of believers who love God ..…

"And you shall love the Lord your God with all your heart, and with all your soul, and with all your mind, and with all your strength" (Mark 12:23)

....seeking to fulfill the Great Commission…

"Go therefore and make disciples of all the nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father and the Son and the Holy Spirit, teaching them to observe all that I commanded you; and lo, I am with you always, even to the end of the age." (Matthew 28:19-20)

....by loving people.

"You shall love your neighbor as yourself. There is no commandment greater than these." (Mark 12:31)

"Having so fond an affection for you, we were well-pleased to impart to you not only the gospel of God but also our own lives, because you had become very dear to us." (1 Thessalonians 2:8)

Our Beliefs

At our church, you will hear the word “gospel” repeatedly because it is the most important truth that we can know and experience. The gospel is not merely a message that needs to be shared with non-Christians, but also with Christians. It is not something that mature Christians move on from, but rather something that they move deeper into. The gospel is the lens in which we should view theology, ministry, and all aspects of life.

The Apostle Paul defined the word “gospel” concisely in 1st Corinthians 15:3-5 when he wrote, “Christ died for our sins in accordance with the Scriptures, that he was buried, that he was raised on the third day in accordance with the Scriptures, and that he appeared to Cephas, then to the twelve.” Simply put, the gospel is all about Jesus’ life, death and resurrection, and the implications it has for us.

Our beliefs at FBC are grounded in the Baptist Faith and Message 2000, which can be read here.
